Homestay Kampung Peruas – Part 2

On our second day there, we woke up to the sounds of the rushing water of the river. We then headed to our initial plan by the organiser which is the ‘Rafflesia Walk View’. Again, we jumped into a back portion of a pick up truck.  As mentioned, the discovery of the Rafflesia flower (which is the biggest flower in the world) have made Kampung Peruas famous of activities related to the research and recreational. There are two species which are ‘Rafflesia Centleyii’ and ‘Rafflesia Azlanii’.

With the famous doodler, AzreenChan (Miss Insectopedia). Ain’t she sweet and cute DSCN9247-2

Finally, things that we’re waiting for!

Unfortunately, it’s just not our luck this time around. We didn’t have the chance to see the blooming Rafflesia. InsyaAllah, perhaps next time! Not much regret since this is definitely our first time to see the real Rafflesia. Seeing the ‘Baby Rafflesia’ was an amazing opportunities not to be missed.

Rafflesia is a genus of parasitic flowering plants. It contains approximately 28 species (including four incompletely characterized species as recognized by Willem Meijer in 1997), all found in southeastern Asia, on the Malay PeninsulaBorneoSumatraThailand and the Philippines.

Next was the ‘Bunga Kantan’ or the Torch Ginger orchard. For real, that was our first time and we bet to the rest of the teams as well! ‘Bunga Kantan’ is in the ginger family and has a very aromatic smell. It is usually used in Assam Laksa, Kerabu and other type of cooking. It can grow several meter in height.

In overall, this is one kind of place that you could spend with your family and even friends. But, the only negative things about this place is that there’s no 3G connection and WiFi. We tried hard checking out the connection and end up looking like a ‘3G Connection Freak’. Hope it will improved in the future.

Homestay Kampung Peruas – Part 1

Assalammualaikum and Hi there!

We finally reached Homestay Kg. Peruas after an hour journey from Kuala Medang, Kuala Lipis. Kampung Peruas is actually a traditional village situated in Sub-district of Ulu Dong, Raub, Pahang with a distance of approximately 36km from Bandar Raub and the nearest town is the town of Dong located 18km away. As for this programme, we are going to stay in Kompleks Pelancongan Homestay Pulau Chekas (KOMPAC) run by the JKKK.

We’ve mentioned in the earlier post that a homestay programme gives tourists the opportunity to stay with a chosen family, interact and experience the daily life of their homestay family and learn the culture and lifestyle of the rural community in Malaysia and it definitely cannot be classified as a lodging facility. So, you might wonder that what are we doing here in KOMPAC. As for information, the same coordinator / organization organized the homestay programme in Kampung Peruas and this chalet is a newly option that they offered to all visitors. You can even opt to stay with foster family as well. The choice is all yours!

Accommodation available at KOMPAC.DSCN9143-2

Tea time! We got a chance to try new local dishes. Oh my, we definitely missed the ‘Ubi Rebus with Gula Kabung’ and ‘Pisang Wap’ at this point of time. Amazing!

‘Pisang Wap’ made from pisang sematu. It’s not compulsary to use this type of banana, but as mentioned by local, it’s the best! They even demonstrated on how to cook this.

Room CHECK! Tea time CHECK! So, it’s time for Kampung Tour. First stop – we visited the biggest chalet in Kampung Peruas which is Chemerkau Chekas Chalet owned by Haji Mustapha. You can even organised family day, team building and etc since they provide basic facilities such as multipurpose hall, dining hall, surau, activities such as flying fox and others. Eventually, the owner was out-of-town and we couldn’t ride the ‘Joy Barell Train’ invented by him using an oil drums. 😦 . Next time, maybe.

We then drove all the way to Hutan Lipur Lata Jarum – the signature of the village! Cool and clear water it is! There is even a huge pool there and the water flow is quite impressive. From there, we walked down to Pulau Chekas Recreational Center.

Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya

Salam,

Awesome! That will be the only word that i could say right now. At this point of time, i miss Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya so badly. How i wish i can stay there for few days. We discovered about Tanah Aina from hubby’s friend, Hana Mahmud. She was there way back last year with her friend. She claimed that it will be such an experience for both of us since we love nature and adventure. Since then, i’ve read their official website, facebook and even twitter update to get more information on the eco resort. Opsss, an EXCLUSIVE eco resort.  After reading all those information and testimonials, we finally booked our trip during the CNY eve recently! Again, it was the best weekend getaway we ever had! For real, the best ever!

We started our journey from KL early in the morning. The check in time will be around 12pm. They have given us a long list of itinerary for the trip. Not to forget the drivers contact number since we have to leave our car at the open car park. Don’t be afraid. Its all safe. Do expect that you need to get into a 4WD for another 2km ride just to reach Tanah Aina. The open carpark is just the starting point. Once we unload all our stuffs, we meet up with Sarah, one of the staff there and the owner, Puan Sri Sharifah Sabrina Syed Agil. Our 1st impression, she is way tooo friendly, humble and down to earth kind of person.

Start your engine! With our driver, Rajes. He’s a Nepalese and he has been working with the owner for the past 12 years. He speak fluent english and malay as well. He keep reminds us that we will be on a rollercoaster ride. Cute betul Rajes ni!

After the bumpy ride, we finally reached the main gate of Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya. We can feel the excitement now.

We are then been greeted with a bunch of staff chasing for our luggage. Panic sekejap. There are almost 7-8 of them. Seriously, we felt that we been treated with a 1st class treatment. Not to forget the welcome drinks. Its a rose syrup with mint! Its like their signature drink here. You can find the same drinks been served throughout the meal. Refreshing!

Once reached, we then settled all the payment and issuing of official receipt by the administration. Not to forget, we (all of us) needs to fill up the registration and indemnity release form for the afternoon jungle trekking to the waterfall. It’s very important in case of emergencies. At the same time, all of our stuff has been transferred directly to our tent. Ya, tent. We camp! They offered various kind of accommodation but we finally opt for tents. Nak adventure la konon.

This is how our tent look like! What do you guys think?

Wait till you see the interior.

Not to worry about the facilities offered here. From clean toilet, shower, surau, common hall and others. Oh ya, i almost forgot to highlight about the interesting fact. They even provided organic shampoo, moisturiser and shower gel since all the wastewater will then be diverted directly to the river. So, to avoid river being polluted, only organic product will be used here.

While unpacking all of our stuff and appreciating the beautiful view, we then been called for our lunch. Oh my! All the food here are delicious and tasteful combined with relaxing atmosphere and view. I bet everybody who has been here will definitely agreed with this! And for the next 2 days in a row after i got back from Tanah Aina, i woke up at midnight just to find my stomach grumbling for food. 2 hari dapat makan sedap-sedap and on time.

After the mouthful lunch, we had our afternoon prayer and getting prepared for the jungle trekking and the waterfall. We commenced somewhere around 3pm while waiting for others who might just reached right after us. I would said this is the best of all. Eventhough you can’t swim, they will provide you with a life jacket each and there will be 8 tour guides with us. They will even bring all your personal belongings (handphone, camera) using a waterbags. We brought along our personal waterbags but we finally handed it to them. Not to forget, do wear water shoes through out the trip. Briefing was made personally by the owner.

We finally reached the waterfall area. Do try the “LEAP OF FAITH” jump as mentioned by the staff. I called it as “COMMIT SUICIDE” jump. Commit suicide pun i tried it twice! If you go further up, you can feel the natural rainshower spa. Do use the rope provided by them.

After 2 1/2 hours there, we moved back for tea time. See! I definitely gain weight here. Non stop meals! A short rest in the tent while waiting for dinner. Since we’re staying in a tent, we have been caught up with the barbecue smell!

DSCN3533-2

At night, we have been given a short briefing by the owner on Tanah Aina followed by free and easy activities. They actually provide night walk but we put it off. With full stomach on, we just sat and play carrom for a few rounds. There are also karaoke session, table tennis, pool and others. Oh ya, we even experienced the fireworks deep in the forest since we were there during CNY eve.

The next morning was just a free and easy activities again. For those who are willing to try flying fox, feel free to do so. You will experience the whole view of Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya. I took the times by getting myself wet again in the river and photograph the environment around.

When the clock strikes 11.30am, we knew that its time for us to pack our bag since we’ve to check out at 12pm. Its time for us to say goodbye to all of our new friends and staff there. We had the “WOW” moment through out the trip. I’ll definitely be in Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya again! You couldnt expect it until you experience it.
